Our Airbnb Journey: Part 2

Now that we’ve gone over how exactly we got into the Airbnb industry and ended up creating a Star Wars Airbnb, this week we want to discuss one of the most fun parts of the process. Yup you guessed it, the design! Let’s start by taking a few steps back. While in the house hunting process for the Star Wars themed Airbnb, we knew we wanted a house that was already finished but also needed a little cosmetic work. We went this route so we wouldn’t have to pay top dollar for a newly renovated home knowing we were going to completely change a good majority of it anyway. With this criteria in mind, we found the perfect 9 bedroom house and pulled the trigger.

Now that we had the house, we had to decide how exactly we were going to go about theming it out of this world! Several different ideas crossed our mind until we decided on the one we think is the best fit.

What we plan to do is make the main floor more classic space themed and design the upstairs as if you are inside of the Millenium Falcon and as you enter each bedroom you step onto a different planet in the Star Wars galaxy. Specifically, the seven planets we chose to use are Naboo, Tatooine, Hoth, Cloud City, Dagobah, Endor, and Mustafar. Now that we had our big idea, we began scouring the internet and pulling pictures from movie scenes and Star Wars fan art to put together concepts to eventually show our theme contractor. Here are two picture examples, the first is our rough concept for the Hoth planet bedroom and the second is our goal for a spaceship bunk room!

Though we are so excited about all the amazing theme work the house will have, we understand that luxury is a quality we want to maintain as well. With this in mind, we’ve decided to keep the main living areas such as the kitchen, dining area, and living room very clean with a modern feel to it as to keep the Star Wars spaceship feel without it being too overwhelming. We believe this will accommodate the needs for all groups wanting to stay in the home. This is a picture of a home with a similar style we’d like to replicate in our house.

The excitement for all of us here at Our Flipping Family is through the roof. We are grateful everyday that when we walk through the office door in the morning, we get to talk about Star Wars and earn money by doing it! Who can say that?!
